LIMITED BACKPACKS
JULY 2016
Creating a small collection of backpacks released in a small edition is an answer of Jenia Kim to the problem of excessive consumption and an abundance of clothes in modern society, which remains relevant.
The main inspiration was the vintage sewing techniques, which have been handed down from generation to generation. Jenia used the best textiles from the previous collections. As a decoration she used inkle and vintage handmade tassels.
The idea: The main idea is to show a modern person the value of existing things, traditions and to place the long-term experience of masters in a small modern designed backpack.
Creative Sources: folk crafts of Central Asia, an artwork "Venus of the rags" by Michelangelo Pistoletto, one of the representatives of Arte Povera, which was originated in the end of 1960s in Italy.
The main decorative element: vintage tassels, made by masters from Central Asia. They were found by the designer in one of the small authentic town in Uzbekistan. The tassels are made from silk and wool, decorated with beads. Traditionally they were used as a decoration for paranja, hairstyle, national costume and interior decoration.
